self-manufactured label LOVE-CHAR, in the style of an ASOS-inspired crochet dress (see right). The creamy shades chosen made me think of Island Creamery with its dreamy Nutella, Horlicks and Teh Tarik offerings (my Top Three must-haves), which was the perfect excuse to do an outdoor photoshoot aka food trip along Bukit Timah Road. A shoutout to non-paperthin girls, we're featuring special imports (only available here !) for bottoms that aren't Size 0, hurray ! AND one of the prettiest floral dresses we've seen around for some time. AND a faux leather jacket in a refreshing shade of cream to channel your biker chick alter ego in an understated manner...
We began our journey at Coronation Plaza, home to after-school bites with pocket-friendly prices for the adolescents we were then. My memories linger amongst school boys crammed in a LAN shop selling bubble tea when it was still the craze, making ourselves literally cosy on the floor outside Cosy Corner due to its limited seating area, and going to Prince for western food when we had a bit of spare cash. And who could miss the affectionately-named Ke Ai Ji which made me wish I was a teenage boy so I could get some preferential treatment from a very famous (or not?) server?
Stomachs growling, we headed off
for lunch at Thai Noodle House (screams Tom Yam Noodles ! Vietnamese Beef Noodles ! Pad Pad Pad Thaiiiiiii ! ) but to our dismay, was way too crowded. We settled for the only table available at its neighbour's, Curry Wok, which was just as good as my imaginary Tom Yam next door. Sam digging in with much fervour (see bottom) is good enough evidence. A fulfilling lunch with lime juice to beat the heat later, it was time for sweet, sweet surrender at Island Creamery.
Serene Centre ! Memories associated with this building involve a whole lot of skipping lectures and inventing new P.E. running routes that extended beyond school compounds for Mac's breakfasts and a scoop or two from Island Creamery. Naturally, it remains my favourite ice cream parlour to date. We ordered and polished an entire tub of Nutella during the shoot, cue blissful look thankyou. And a scoop of Horlicks (my all-time favourite for its homely, milky taste) and Pear Sake (new flavour, coyingly sweet sorbet which we liked as well) each. The biggest shock? No Teh Tarik that day... or is it forever ?!?! WHY SOMEONE TELL ME WHY !
I wished we didn't have to rush to wrap up the shoot or we'd have been able to make a final stopover at Adam Food Centre. Am positively salivating at the thought of Nasi Lemak and Big Prawn Noodles now, UGH. We managed to make a feeble attempt at capturing the lure of this mini food haven with Sam showing some lovin' for the lamp post (see left), and ZY posing very sportingly at one of its entrances. nds for two things close to myheart (or stomach, in the latter case)--friends and food. Six long years of education here was a mix of angst, drama and a 95% exam failure rate, but from it I earned myself a group of very special people who represent what's left of the good-hearted, genuine, down-to-earth, grounded and humble population. I am glad to be able to revisit this place with part of this group, simply to eat the same food we did together back then.
I'm sure that everyone else has his/her special place. I say, go on now and find that magic back (:

Hi there.. been eyeing the crotchet dress on ASOS til i see it on ur BS.
quite interested to get it but can i check if there is any avail for a longer length? always been wearing abt 34'' dresses and hence abit worried that 32'' might be a lil too short. cant exactly gauge the lenght on ur models cus either cant really see from the pic or they're pulling the dress up. except the one wearing cream.. anw, i'm jus worried length gnna be worse if it shrinks after washing..
Anon: Hellohello there, so sorry for the delayed response ! There is only one length for Serene, but the material doesn't shrink after washes. My own piece has been washed more than thrice and it's still the same (: However, it really depends on what you define as too short... as a short-length dress I think it's alright for girls up to about 1.7m. And that's only my personal opinion ! You could perhaps fold up the hems of your 34inches dresses by 2inches to imagine if you'd feel comfortable with this length? Comfort is just as important as style ! (:
